Frequently Asked Questions

We have selected some frequently asked questions that could help you understand more about our model and how to get started.

GENERATOR

1. Is it mandatory for my company to hire a private waste collection company?

According to the article 141 of law 13.478 of 2002, all businesses in São Paulo generating more than 200 liters of waste daily, will be considered Large Generators, and must hire a private company to perform the services of collection, transportation, treatment and final destination of the waste generated. These businesses must keep the original of the collection contract available in case of inspection.

Non-residential or hybrid-use buildings with a total average daily volume of solid waste generated by all units of more than 1,000 liters, are also considered Large Generators and must hire private collection services for the removal of their waste.

2. My company does not segregate waste yet. Can I hire MUSA?

Yes, we are here for that! We identify the types and volumes of waste generated by your company and recommend the best way to start. We work with a segregation model in 3 types, which simplifies and guarantees low contamination rates, thus allowing better rates of effective recycling.

After the diagnostic, we will redesign the disposal model of your company, adjusting the existing containers and guiding your team in a simple way. The entire collection and disposal model to be implemented aims to ensure a better quality of the waste generated.

3. Is MUSA a waste collection company?

No! We are a technology company focused on the management of all types of waste. We implement a simplified disposal model, we collect your waste through specialized transporters and send it to the receivers of each type of waste generated.

All partners operating on the MUSA platform have all the licenses required by their state and municipal authorities.

4. How does the contractual relationship work?

The contract is made directly between your company and MUSA. We will take care of the whole relationship with other stakeholders in the process (Transporters and Receivers) without you having to worry about it.

After accepting our proposal, you will receive a link for completing a digital signature. The contract will be saved online with all security and privacy policies. You can access it at any time, by logging into the platform.

5. My company already has a contract with a waste collection company. Can I still work with MUSA?

You can! At MUSA we will provide all the necessary support to help you with the change of supplier.

But it is worth remembering that the MUSA model uses market Transporters and Receivers, so it is worth consulting our list of partners to identify whether your current collector already operates in the MUSA system. This can speed up the change in the contract.

6. If I am not satisfied with the service provided by MUSA, can I terminate my contract?

Yes! If you are not satisfied with the service, you can terminate the contract at any time. Just complete your termination request through our customer service platform 30 days in advance.

Just remember that MUSA aims to reduce waste management costs and increase recycling rates.

7. How does the implementation of the MUSA model work?

Step 1: You must answer an online diagnostic form so that we can understand how waste disposal is organized today in your company. Understanding the types, volumes and other characteristics of your company’s waste management allows us to provide you with a better service.

Step 2: We will schedule a physical visit to get to know your space. This will help us to make recommendations to improve your disposal model, and establish a collection and destination plan.

Step 3: After your approval, we will sign the contract and start the implementation process.

Step 4: You will receive access to our platform to be able to digitally manage everything, such as tracking collection and destination, and visualize your operational and impact reports.

A MUSA recycling agent will make periodic visits to identify improvements and assist with whatever is necessary.

8. Does MUSA offer suitable bins and containers for the collection of each type of waste?

Yes! Our aim is zero waste, so we make the most of your current structure. We will reorganize the bins and containers by space and type of waste generated. We will add signs advising on the new disposal organization. We adapt your storage containers, always trying to reduce the contamination of your waste flows.

If necessary, you can purchase through MUSA, new low-cost and labeled bins and containers, appropriate for each environment according to the disposal model to be implemented.

We also facilitate the sale of your current containers to the industry that reuses the material and turns it into new products if you choose to exchange your current containers for new ones.

9. Where do the materials go after being collected by MUSA?

With MUSA, each type of material has an appropriate reuse destination. We will create a destination plan for you with appropriate partners for your waste, but in general the most frequent destinations are:

• Organics go to compost, where they are transformed into fertilizer.

• Recyclables go to sorting stations, where they are carefully separated and then sent to processing plants to become new raw materials for industries. Or if they are already segregated, we can take them directly to their respective industries.

• Other waste goes to co-processing plants or CDRs where they are transformed into energy for civil construction.

Note: Special waste will have its proper destination by type.

10. At what times and days of the week will my waste be collected?

The collection frequency will be recommended after detailed analysis of your volumes, types, storage capacity and maximum storage time for your waste.

Everything will be described in the collection plan. The times will be determined based on the profile of your company and its waste, prioritizing the best functioning of your operation and the compliance with the laws of your state and municipality.

The MUSA model aims for a reduction of your costs. For that, we operate with individual collections for the three types of waste - organic, recyclable and others. We create a separate route for each type.

11. How will my employees and I learn how to segregate waste correctly?

The methodology implemented by MUSA provides for segregation levels ranging from 1 to 4, which facilitates the initial process and ensures a constant evolution according to your profile and the recycling rates achieved by your company during the operation.

The educational part will take into account: new disposal and destination model; how and why to do it (vision of social, environmental and economic impact).

12. How does MUSA make money?

MUSA is remunerated with a % of the service fee charged to your company. We optimize the implementation, collection and destination process to achieve considerable cost savings over time.

By leveraging technology, our model reduces the inefficiencies existing in the current models of disposal, collection and destination.

The savings and efficiencies range from the garbage bags used in the containers to the cost of collection and destination.

13. Is the payment monthly? Via Boleto?

Yes, payment for the service takes place monthly. We send the invoice together with the collection and destination report. For greater transparency, it is possible to monitor the volume collected daily through the MUSA platform.

When paying MUSA, the Generator is paying for the entire service, from collection to destination of waste.

The implementation of the service will be charged during the initial phase and the purchase of maintenance items can be done if necessary.

14. Does MUSA provide reports with data on environmental impact and cost reduction?

Yes! We provide reports via our platform. Over time, you will be able to measure the improvement of your management and effective recycling, the drop in greenhouse gas emissions and how much you have saved.

These documents were designed with the commonly used data of social and economic impact, in case your business needs to present similar reports to shareholders, directors and consumers.

We will also recommend a form of internal disclosure to your employees and customers.

15. Will my company's carbon footprint be reduced?

Yes - significantly. In addition to the reduction in the carbon footprint, we will also reduce the emissions of Methane gas, since our model avoids landfills.

Methane gas is considered to be one of the biggest ozone depleting agents, and about 10-15% of all its global production comes from landfills.

16. What is the Amlurb registration? Do you help with that process?

The registration at Amlurb (Municipal Authority of Urban Cleaning), was mandatorily instituted - in SP - as of 2019, as a self-declared electronic system to determine whether the company is a Large Generator or not. Those who do not register will be fined R$1,639.60.

MUSA helps all companies to register through the CTR-E system. Just download the document below and follow the step by step process.

But it is important that you know that Amlurb's registration belongs to your company, so if you already have it, it will be maintained even if you change your service provider.

17. Does MUSA prepare the Solid Waste Management Plan - PGRS for Generators?

Yes! Through specialized partners, MUSA is able to prepare the PGRS for Large Generators of MSW, according to the guidelines and regulations established in the "National Solid Waste Policy" (PNRS) and in the "Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan" (PIGRS) State of São Paulo.
